India has been a free country for 74 years. Independence is just around the corner and it is this occasion that every Indian eagerly awaits and takes pride in. Over the years, among the various activities and engagements that take place around this celebration, it is the movies based on the patriotic theme that even today uplift our spirits and infuses the sense of pride within us for our country.
With most of us being home bound this year, what better way to embrace the significance of the day than to watch these diverse storylines depicting either freedom fighters, unsung heroes or stories of national essence, streaming on your favourite OTT platforms.
Mission Mangal (Disney+ Hotstar)
Based on the extraordinary true story of India�s finest scientists who rose above all hardships and failures to make India the only country to reach Mars in its first attempt. Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha and Tapsee Pannu keep you engaged in this dramatised version of the real-life mission our country undertook despite the many challenges.

Shaheed-E-Azam (Voot)
Chronicling the life and times of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, the Indian rebellious freedom fighter, along with his comrades joined an armed resistance group. With India�s independence from the British Raj their main goal, they carry out numerous attacks against the colonial rulers, resulting in sacrificing his life for the country. Watch Sonu Sood play Bhagat Singh convincingly in this biopic.

Mangal Pandey (Amazon Prime Video)
Though this film isn�t half the feat Rang De Basanti achieved for Aamir Khan, but resonates the same sentiment of loving your country with all your might. Mangal Pandey is a historical, biographical film on the life of our great freedom fighter Mangal Pandey. The Indian soldier who was at the helm of the Revolution against the British Raj in 1857. Directed by Ketan Mehta, Aamir Khan, Rani Mukerji, Ameesha Patel and Kirron Kher trace the story of this Indian sepoy who saves the life of his British commanding officer, which leads to a strong friendship between the two.

Bhaag Mikha Bhaag (Disney+ Hotstar)
A biopic on Milkha Singh aka 'The Flying Sikh,' the film chronicles his incredible struggle; from being an orphan to becoming one of India�s greatest athletes and making his country proud. Farhan Akhtar shone bright with his exceptional performance, the physical transformation that he went through for the role was much talked about during the film�s release and is a feast to watch as you sit in your living room cheering for Milkha�s win.

Swades (Netflix)
A warm film that evokes the feeling of patriotism like no other! Shah Rukh Khan as the very Amerciased NASA-returned NRI plays the role of Mohan with perfection. Taking you along with him to the realities of grassroot challenges in Indian villages, Swades stirs a storm of emotions in you everytime you watch it.
