God bless the woman with ambition: One minute to being a boss lady!

As a kid, I wanted to be an astronaut, as a teenager a lawyer, grew up a little to want to become an architect, later a designer. Courses in IT, Design to English honours, joined theatre, wanted to act, wanted to direct, still want to make films, but, one constant subconscious thought that I didn’t quite pay attention to for the longest time was the fact that everything I wanted to do served one purpose- that was to not work for anyone else but myself. To be my boss.

Let me start with what I was doing wrong - walking in and out of jobs super frequently and dabbling with various things, working in various fields, related, unrelated, thereby living an exceptionally ‘chaotic’ life.

And What was I doing right? Walking in and out of jobs – god saved my bosses the horror! And multiple interests and parallel career choices – the recipe for success or chaos – or both, I am still figuring out!

I can only say, like Joseph Campbell does, ‘follow your bliss’ it doesn’t matter if it lies in multiple things – follow one, move to the other, come back again or if you’re blessed with copious amounts of energy like me – do it all at the same time! But whatever you do, do it wholeheartedly, with commitment and self-belief. Easier said than done, but ultimately, it’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog that takes you places. That’s one decisive force. Everything else falls into place if your mental strength is at par with the magnitude of your dreams.

The only tip and key to doing it right however are learning how to manage your time, how to prioritize.

If I may add, don’t be too hard on yourself, short term, midterm, long term goal setting helps, but none of it will help if you die tomorrow! Universe has a mysterious way to work with you if it knows the candidate is in it for the greater good of their existence. I may sound very philosophical here, but the essence of my strategy is having no strategy solidified. A blend of fluidity and focus has been a winning combination for me at least! Not having to care about what my counterparts are doing, the competition or the time lag on the road to success, not having to care about a hundred different opinions and advice. At the same time, absorbing it all till it makes sense to me.
